What is Gore Windstopper Technology?

The Gore® Windstopper® membrane is a technology developed by Gore. It has been designed, taking into account real work situations, so that all users can be protected when it is cool and the wind is blowing.

This membrane is totally windproof thanks to its ultra-thin protective barrier, laminated to obtain a lightweight textile. It is made from PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), a versatile polymer stretched to form a microporous structure. These micro-pores are 900 times larger than water vapor molecules and thus let sweat escape.

Products with this technology are suitable for different types of use, adapting to specific requirements and needs such as Gore® Windstopper® gloves and lightweight clothing.

The key advantages of this material:

  • Windbreaker:

Gore® Windstopper® technology provides total wind protection, while preserving the warmth and comfort of the user.

  • Breathability:

The membrane blocks the wind while letting sweat escape. In particular, it limits the excess heat that can be generated during physical activity.

  • Water resistant:

Some products such as gloves or clothing offer protection against light rain.

Note that according to Gore's standards, a product can be considered windproof only if its air permeability is less than or equal to 1.0 cfm (Cubic Feet per Minute). All Gore® Windstopper® products go beyond this standard.
